 Job Title: Design and Fabrication Assistant

Background

Priormade Ltd is a female owned design and fabrication studio specialising in product design and retail. We also create signage, display and props for event and theatre, and deliver fun and modern practical design workshops for adults and young people. We also have a sister shop called Prior Shop and sell work from the UK's leading handmade sustainable brands. We are dedicated to creating work that is responsibly created, sustainable and with materials that have a lower impact on the environment.  

Below is the job description setting out the key tasks. These may vary slightly depending on what projects arise.  

Job Title: Design, Fabrication and Retail Assistant

Effective Date: As soon as possible

Duration: 6 months 

Reporting to: Beck Prior, Managing Director/ Owner

Location: Prior Shop/ Priormade Studio, 58 West Street, St Phillips Bristol BS2 0BL

Duration: 25 hours per week

 1. The Job Purpose

As part of the Priormade Fabrication Team you will be assisting with the creation and selling of Priormade homeware and jewellery products, and commissions. You will also assist with the selling of Priormade products in a retail shop and at market events. You might also help plan and deliver high quality community based creative workshops and opportunities for children, young people and adults. The role could also include some digital marketing design and social media management. 

2. The main duties and responsibilities of the post holder will include: -

2.1 To help create wooden products and commissions in the workshop using a range of hand tools, power tools and wood working machinery. You will also be required to collect materials from suppliers and help keep the workshop, office and amenities organised, clean and tidy.

2.2 To work with the Priormade team selling products to customers. This could be on-site in the retail shop PRIOR (Old Market/City Centre), or at local markets, fairs and events. You will also be required to help keep the shop and stock organised and tidy.

2.3 To assist with the creative workshops that we provide in schools, community groups and at Prior Shop (Old Market). These workshops will occasionally be outside of Bristol. You would be expected to encourage young person and adult participation and input in the activities we run.

2.4 Assist with content and visual for marketing purposes to increase the profile of Priormade. This will be via social media and marketing platforms (Instagram, Facebook & Pintrest) and include creative, fun stories and scheduled posts that build positive relationships with customers, press, businesses and other brands. We write monthly e-newsletters and blogs and there would be opportunities for you to contribute to these.

2.5 Undertake any other duties as are related with the post or will be of benefit to Priormade Ltd.

3. The Person

The person suited to this post will demonstrate that they:

  • Are have a high level of creative ambition and skill, and are able to show they can carry out repetitive tasks.
  • Able to learn and use machinery and power tools in a safe and responsible manner (after being inducted).
  • Able to wear PPE (mask and googles) for a number of hours in a wood workshop.
  • Have a flexible approach to work as some weekend work will be needed.
  • Is self-motivated, has a positive attitude, is a good communicator and has good planning and organisation skills. 
  • Is approachable, friendly and trustworthy.
  • Has a genuine desire to develop themselves and others and wishes to expand their experience of working in either the retail, product design or arts fabrication industries.
  • Be interested in the aims and principles of youth work in a creative setting.

 

The person suited to this post will ideally but not essential: 

  • Hold a full, current driving licence and a means of transport to commute efficiently and effectively should we be working onsite.
  • Hold a current DBS.  *We will arrange this for you if you do not hold a current DBS.

 

4. The Principles

  1. The Package

 

Duration:                      6 months    (potentially longer depending on funding)    

Salary:                         25 hours per week pro rata amount for 6 months £6,175

                                    £9.50 per hour

Expenses:                    Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed, subject to receipts being produced, along with work related mileage in line with Priormade agreed payment rates.     

Probationary Period:    The post is subject to a one month probationary period.

Working hours:            25 hours per week, on a flexible basis which will include some weekend work. We hope the working days will be Tuesday & Wednesday plus alternate Thursdays and Saturdays.  

Holidays:                     8 days and 6 hours of holiday per year including bank holidays.

Main place of work:      Priormade Studio / Prior Shop. 58 West Street, St Phillips Bristol BS2 0BL and Prior Shop Pop up, Cabot Circus BS1
